Valiants host first round playoff action
Purchase, NY -- A season of firsts for Manhattanville's young program will continue this Saturday. The 2000-01 campaign saw the Valiants compete in a conference for the first time (ECAC), play a number 1 team in the nation (Middlebury) & earn a top 10 national ranking. With a pair of wins last weekend, and a little help, the Valiants will now start their first postseason with a home playoff game Saturday at 4:00 PM against Southern Maine.
Manhattanville is 2-0 lifetime against the Huskies. This will be the first game of the series played at Sports Plus at New Roc City. The Valiants scored a 3-2 victory in overtime as an Independent in 99-00. Current co-captain Kristin Sahlem (West Seneca, NY) assisted on the game-winner at the 2:31 mark of the extra session. Sahlem scored the game-winner and added an assist in a 3-0 blanking of the Huskies earlier this month. Freshman Renee Kirnan (Dewitt, NY) stopped 20 shots in goal for the Valiants.
Manhattanville (the number 4 seed) enters the ECAC postseason as one of the hotter teams in the conference. The Valiants have won four in a row, and have a 9-1-2 record over their last 12 contests. After running off a 10-game unbeaten streak, Southern Maine went 2-2-0 over the final four games of the regular season.
